Change of Date

Please be advised that due to the Baptist church needing our slot on the 16th of June we will be meeting one week later. The date of this meeting will now be the 23rd of June and not the 16th.

We are also going to be holding our 5th exhibition on the Willingham feast weekend which will be the 4th and 5th of October. You enter 2 photos, the 1st to be from one of our assignments from the past year and the 2nd to be any subject of your own choice. We will give you details of where to send your photos, and when the cut off date is, in the near future.

Finally, we are coming up to a change of the gang of 4. If you think you may be interested in helping to run your club for the next 6 months, then please talk to one of the current gang of 4 – who are Fred, Tony, Symon & Anita.

Urban Photographer of the Year

upotyAs Stephen mentioned at the March meeting, here is the link to the website for the Urban Photographer of the Year 2014.

The Urban Photographer of the Year will be the person who, in the eyes of the judges, has best captured the brief to portray the life of a town or city at a given time of day.

The Competition opens on 17th March and entries can be accepted until 8th August.

If you win, Stephen wants a credit.

New Format Competition

Starting from the March meeting, the new competition will be:

Your Favourite Photo

Your single monthly entry must be submitted as a 6×4 print of a photograph which you have taken in the previous 6 months.

The monthly winner will be decided by the blind voting system which we have been using. At the end of the year, in December, all the monthly winners will be put together and an overall winner will be chosen by our judges, Francis and Stephen.

The overall winner will win a prize: 6 months free membership.

Newsletter

The current gang of four – Tony, Fred, Symon and Anita – have just finished a year of duty. As there were no offers of a new gang of four we are all willing to carry on for the next 6 months.

We had our group meeting to discus the next 6 months, both Francis and Stephen attended as well as Chris and Andrew. We hope that we have set you some interesting and challenging subjects. These may be tweaked a little as we have asked a couple of visitors to talk to us about their work.

Exhibition News
I’m sure you will all agree what a great exhibition we had this year. It was our 4th exhibition and the photos that were on display were a very high standard indeed. We have discussed having another exhibition in the spring – the dates we have set aside for this are April 12 & 13 2014.

Please give us your views on having a Spring Exhibition.

Field Trips and Workshops
We are currently looking into different field trips & workshops. We feel there is an opening here for another member of the club. It has been suggested that if we knew what was coming up in other villages/towns then we could organise our own field trip.

We are looking for a member who could research events and send them off to Derek who could put them onto our website. If this is something you may be interested in then please do talk to one of us.

A Few “Thank Yous”
We would like to thank you, the members, for supporting your club and contributing to each assignment.

A big thank you to Derek who updates our website and keeps it running; also to Colin who each month supplies the Willingham News with our subject of the month.

We would also like to say a very big thank you for the support and advice that Francis and Stephen gives each and every club member.

Agenda
The events section shows the dates and subjects for the next six months. Please remember it’s your interpretation of the subjects, however abstract that might be.

Please may we also remind you that you should only supply 3 images for each subject matter, not forgetting to label them with your name, subject & number (1,2,3).

Our new print competition for 2014 is: Select a photograph from Google Images or Flickr, then recompose and photograph as your own. You must show the original & yours, 6×4 prints only.

We haven’t forgotten about our green screen photography, would you like this to be a non-club Monday night?

Exhibition News

Hopefully you have now all submitted your photographs for the exhibition.

Anita has contacted all of the camera clubs in Cambridge and invited them to our exhibition. In return, Bottisham & Burwell Photographic Club have invited us to their 40th Anniversay Exhibition in November:

Our club is celebrating its 40th Anniversary in November this year and to commemorate this “Ruby” occasion we are staging an Exhibition of our members’ work on Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 October 2013 at Mandeville Hall, Burwell, Cambridge from 10 am to 4 pm, with the official opening on Saturday 19 October at 10.30 am by Keith Heppell of Cambridge Newspapers Ltd.

I do hope that some of your members will be able to visit the Exhibition and we are able to share ideas, visits, workshops etc. in the future.

The current Gang of Four – Tony, Fred, Symon and Anita – will be staying on for another 6 months. We had our group meeting to discuss the agenda for the next 6 months, with both Francis and Stephen attending to give technical support on our ideas. We hope that you agree with us that we have set some interesting and challenging subjects.

Exhibition News

We understand that as such there will be no Willingham feast this year, although there will be several different events going on around the village. As a result of this we still feel that we should have an exhibition to show the talent of our club to the village. This also helps to draw in new members to the club.

We hope to be able to link this with the water colour art group that is in the village, by making it a joint exhibition. We will keep you updated on this, watch this space.

Field Trips and Workshops

We are currently looking into different field trips that have been put forward by members of the club. These will be held either on a weekend or a non-club evening.

Register of Members

We would like to complete a new register of our members, there is a form here. Please complete it and return it to one of the Gang of Four. This information is only for club members, it will not be given out to third parties, but it will be very helpful in contacting members for field trips etc.

Agenda for the Next 6 Months

The events calendar on the website now has the next meeting dates and assignments. Please remember it’s your interpretation of the subjects, however abstract that might be.

On each club night there is no change to the current running format. During the first ½ we will show the photographs taken by members from the assignments set from the previous month. Then time for coffee and a catch up with each other.

During the second ½ we will run through the next assignment, as well as question and answer time and technical information (as time allows).

We have asked Francis and Stephen to carry on with their critiques of our photographs for each assignment.

Please be reminded if you have not already paid your subs they are now due, you may of course now pay by cheque making it out to “Willingham Photographic Club”.

This is your club and as much as possible we have taken into account your ideas for each month’s agenda. If you have any concerns or ideas for the club please do not hesitate to talk to us.

Colin Brown will be our liaison with Willingham News, giving them a regular monthly update on our subject and information for new members. Chris is also making himself available to help us out as well with his telephone number staying as a contact for the Willingham News.

The current Gang of Four will be stepping down in the October meeting, so we will be looking for other members to take that over. It does not take up much of your time – if any one is interested and you would like to know more please speak to one of us. This is your chance to put your ideas forward and see them develop – your first subject has already been chosen for you for the 18th of November.
