The committee had their meeting just a couple of weeks ago. We discussed many items for the agenda, one of which was our green screen photo shot for the July meeting. There were many ideas from the members of images of background and what you would like to see our model doing, so we broke it down to about 4 or 5 shoots. I hope you will enjoy what we have set up for you to photograph. Phil will be available to download exhibition images and talk to members.

Welcome to Steve Harding who has joined our committee as our Willingham News press secretary. The other current committee members are:

Fred, Tony, Symon, Steve, Phil, Neil & Anita.

With both Francis and Stephen giving professional guidance.

August 21st

Exhibition work, Stephen will be available to download members’ images and talk to members about their images in one-on-one meetings. Whilst this is happening, there will be a work shop set up for members to experiment with. Please bring with you your cameras, flash equipment and tripods.

Summer time

We hope to be able to treat members to a trip to London. Date to be confirmed but it will be a Saturday or a Sunday. We will meet at Cambridge North railway station and travel via train and tube to different locations. The club will pay for transport, as a group ticket into the city. This will be during August, this means we will have to travel around London together.

We also hope to have a private viewing of Cattel’s windmill, again this is date to be confirmed.

March 19th

April 16th

Frozen in time (to be confirmed)

As we have said so many times before the subjects and evenings may be subject to change. It is one of the hardest things for the committee, to come up with assignments as well as work shops and demonstrations. I hope you all appreciate the time they give to the club.

The exhibition can not take place with out members’ help. We need your help to set up, run and take down the exhibition. Even if you can only spare an hour of your time. It’s your exhibition and the public love to talk to the members about their images and why you chose them. It is also where we gain new members for the club. It’s your exhibition: without your help we can not run it.

Don’t forget to see Fred after you have downloaded your images with either Phil or Stephen. He needs your information for the labels.

Finally, it is with a great deal of thought that both Stephen and I will be leaving the club in October after the presentation evening. Due to personal reasons, this will be our last club night for a while.

Stephen was one of the first members to join the club when it first started many years ago. Not long after, I joined so that Anne would not feel like the only female in the club. After which I joined the committee and then have been chair for the past few years. Over the years we have made many new friends within the club and have enjoyed many social events. We would both like to wish the continued success that the club has gained over the years. It is a great club for meeting like-minded people and enjoying the social aspect of friendships. We will miss our Monday nights.

This will leave an opening for a new committee member to fill, and also to join Francis as a professional critic. If you are interested in either of these posts or would like to know more, please do not hesitate to talk to one of the current committee members, or to Francis or Stephen.

We had our committee meeting about a month ago to sort out next year’s assignments. (These are now in the diary.) The current committee are happy to continue for the moment, however we are happy to invite anyone who wishes to join the team as a new member of the committee. The current gang are:

Fred, Phill, Symon, Tony, Neil and Anita.

The club finances are good, we currently have:

Bank £1,168.28
Rent Due -£240.00
Petty Cash £36.65

The rent will be paid in the next few days, that’s the total rent for the year. We have decided to give a gift aid of £100 to WAG (Willingham Action Group) They have supported us for many years, with the exhibitions we run each year.

We hope to get other guest speakers in next year, there are a few possibilities we are looking into.

We are also looking at field trips for 2017 as well as workshops and social events.

Stephen reports that ‘Affinity Photo‘ has now been released for £40.

Thank You

Dear Members,

The committee and I would like to say a huge thank you.

We know that during the last few club nights we have not covered very much, as in assignments. But believe us when we say that it was worth it to sort out our exhibition. Stephen has still put quite a bit of work in to get us exhibition ready.

The photos have all arrived and we are doing the finishing bits to them this week.

So thanks again, we look forward to see them all on display on feast weekend.

Take care,

Anita

Newsletter

The current gang of five is Tony, Fred, Symon, Phil and Anita.

We had our group meeting not long ago to discuss the next 6 month’s assignments. Both Francis and Stephen attended giving their technical support on our ideas. We hope that you will agree with us that we have set some interesting and challenging subjects.

Exhibition news

Firstly, may we apologise for the number of sessions and amount of club time we have used preparing for the exhibition. In years past we have been chasing people up at the last minute for both their photographs and their information. This was the reason behind our choice to do this.

The date for the exhibition is Saturday the 10th and Sunday the 11th of October, our opening times are 12 until 5 on Saturday & 10 until 4 on the Sunday. We will be asking for volunteers to help set up, be available to support the show and talk to visitors, even if you can only help for an hour or so. This is your show and without your help we cannot run these exhibitions.

Our website

I am not sure how many of us have had a look at our website recently. It is full of helpful presentations put together not only by Francis & Stephen but by other members of the club.

There is a sale page which you can use if you have anything you wish to sell; just send Derek the info and he will upload it for you. Look for this under “Categories: For Sale”.

For the August presentation on CameraSim software, there are links on our site, too. You just need to go into “Categories: software” and look for the “Simulated Cameras” page. There are links to both CameraSim & Play. You can play to your heart’s content. I have found this very visual and very useful myself.

So please when you get a chance visit our site and have a look around – it might be more helpful than you think. Derek puts a lot of hard work in keeping the site up to date and running for us, to use.

Assignments & workshops

Please note sometimes there is a need to change a workshop – we will do our best to inform you as early as possible to any changes we may have to make. Please make sure we have a correct email address for you in order that we may do this.

We would like to try and organize a few social gatherings/outings during the next six months. These will include partners and children. Alas, we were not able this year to have a summer BBQ. We are open to suggestions – maybe a picnic day? We would need to think carefully about transport, for those people who do not drive, we may have to car share. Please let us know your ideas.

We are thinking of a meal out during November. In the past we have been to the Indian restaurant in the village and this has worked well.  We booked the whole place out on Monday night.

And finally, we need your help with ideas for assignments. Every 6 months we come up with new ideas and sometimes revisit past assignments. Please feel free to talk to one of us about your ideas, it does not matter how obscure you think it may be.

Exhibition: Good News

At the Willingham Parish Council meeting last night, it was agreed that we will be able to use the Public Hall for our exhibition. Thanks to Anita and Fred for writing letters and turning up, Reg (and WAG) for pushing this whenever he could, the Public Hall Users Committee for their support and finally the Parish Council for letting this popular event continue in what we like to think of as its home.

Woodland Trust “Say Trees” Competition

Graham Mumby has pointed out this photography competition, in case anyone in the club is interested. There is no obvious closing date on the site, but it does say the winner will be announced at the end of July.

We’re looking for your best photos of woodland and nature with a family and friends focus – don’t forget to say trees!

Whether it’s a riverside walk, a den building expedition with the kids to your local woods or a weekend camping adventure, grab your camera, get snapping and upload your best effort.

Details and entry here.
