Fund Raising Auction

Dear members,

Stephen would like to ask you to help fund raise for his London exhibition in June. This will entail a print auction in Cambridge on the 7th of April starting at 6:30 and bidding begins at 7:15. It will be held at 2648 Club, on Trinity Street Cambridge.

Prints have been promised from some well known photographers, we will keep you informed of the list.

If you would like to donate prints for the auction, he requires them to be between 10×8 to 20×16, please also supply a small image for the catalogue. These small images will need to be emailed to Stephen and prints given to him on our club night on the 21st of March.
Everyone is welcome to attend the print auction and the exhibition in London. Details of which will be given closer to the date in June.

If you have any questions please email Stephen directly on art@mindakart.co.uk
We would both like to say a huge thank you for supporting Stephen in this venture.

Kindest regards,
Anita

e-Luminate Field Trip

Here are details for those members who wish to photograph the e-Luminate Festival lights in Cambridge on the 15th February.

There are currently 16 members signed up to go, so to make the group manageable on our walk, and to reduce waiting time for everyone to get their shots, the group will be divided in to 3 smaller groups, escorted by Fred, Phil and myself, who will give advice where needed on camera settings, positions and venues.

We will meet outside the Round Church between 19:30 and 19:45, ready to start shooting no later than 20:00, starting at St John’s College, and moving up Trinity Street to The Senate House, King’s College and Chapel, the Guildhall and anywhere else that time permits.

Click on this link for the official e-Luminate website,

Getting there

Car
The Park Street Car Park is only 5 minutes walk from the Round Church and costs 80p per hour after 5pm, pay on exit. If you wish, you can arrange car sharing between yourselves.
Bus
The Guided Bus ‘B’ service leaves from Longstanton at 18.43 or 19.13 and takes about 20 minutes to reach the Round Church stop (request stop). The return bus departs Drummer Street at 21:35 or 22.35, or from Jesus Lane (opposite Patisserie Valerie) about 3 minutes later.

Equipment

Cameras
DSLR and Mirror-less – bring a wide angle lens as the buildings are tall. I suggest prime lenses or a medium zoom of about 18mm-55mm. You will need to use an ISO of 800 or 1600 (maybe more).
Compact Camera and Phones
As you can’t change the lenses, we will give you the best settings and advice where we can.
Tripod
bring one if you wish, as some of the longer distance shots will only have minimal light, and therefore low shutter speeds.
Torch
handy for changing camera settings in the dimly lit streets.

Weather

If it rains, I shall still be going with an umbrella and plastic bag to cover the camera!

If you decide not to attend for any reason, please send me a text or phone the number below, so we don’t wait around for your non-arrival!

If you need any further information, please don’t hesitate to contact me, and I look forward to seeing you all on the 15th.

Printer Cartridges

I have had to change my printer and the previous inks are not compatible. So, I have genuine Canon Pixma 5PGBK and CLI 551 BK cartridges left. I would accept £12 for the pair, buyer to collect by arrangement. Probably cost twice or more than that in the shop or on line.

Thank You

Dear Members,

The committee and I would like to say a huge thank you.

We know that during the last few club nights we have not covered very much, as in assignments. But believe us when we say that it was worth it to sort out our exhibition. Stephen has still put quite a bit of work in to get us exhibition ready.

The photos have all arrived and we are doing the finishing bits to them this week.

So thanks again, we look forward to see them all on display on feast weekend.

Take care,

Anita

Newsletter

The current gang of five is Tony, Fred, Symon, Phil and Anita.

We had our group meeting not long ago to discuss the next 6 month’s assignments. Both Francis and Stephen attended giving their technical support on our ideas. We hope that you will agree with us that we have set some interesting and challenging subjects.

Exhibition news

Firstly, may we apologise for the number of sessions and amount of club time we have used preparing for the exhibition. In years past we have been chasing people up at the last minute for both their photographs and their information. This was the reason behind our choice to do this.

The date for the exhibition is Saturday the 10th and Sunday the 11th of October, our opening times are 12 until 5 on Saturday & 10 until 4 on the Sunday. We will be asking for volunteers to help set up, be available to support the show and talk to visitors, even if you can only help for an hour or so. This is your show and without your help we cannot run these exhibitions.

Our website

I am not sure how many of us have had a look at our website recently. It is full of helpful presentations put together not only by Francis & Stephen but by other members of the club.

There is a sale page which you can use if you have anything you wish to sell; just send Derek the info and he will upload it for you. Look for this under “Categories: For Sale”.

For the August presentation on CameraSim software, there are links on our site, too. You just need to go into “Categories: software” and look for the “Simulated Cameras” page. There are links to both CameraSim & Play. You can play to your heart’s content. I have found this very visual and very useful myself.

So please when you get a chance visit our site and have a look around – it might be more helpful than you think. Derek puts a lot of hard work in keeping the site up to date and running for us, to use.

Assignments & workshops

Please note sometimes there is a need to change a workshop – we will do our best to inform you as early as possible to any changes we may have to make. Please make sure we have a correct email address for you in order that we may do this.

We would like to try and organize a few social gatherings/outings during the next six months. These will include partners and children. Alas, we were not able this year to have a summer BBQ. We are open to suggestions – maybe a picnic day? We would need to think carefully about transport, for those people who do not drive, we may have to car share. Please let us know your ideas.

We are thinking of a meal out during November. In the past we have been to the Indian restaurant in the village and this has worked well.  We booked the whole place out on Monday night.

And finally, we need your help with ideas for assignments. Every 6 months we come up with new ideas and sometimes revisit past assignments. Please feel free to talk to one of us about your ideas, it does not matter how obscure you think it may be.
