Willingham Horticultural & Craft Show

Thanks to all members who submitted entries to the show this year. As a result, the photographic section was much healthier than last year:

Photo Entries

Congratulations to our members who won 5 of the 6 categories, including Best in Section and Best in Show. We now have a reputation to keep up next year!

Simulated Cameras

Fred has pointed out these rather spiffy camera simulators. They let you change various exposure settings, see immediately what the effects are and will give you some feedback on what works or doesn’t.

Snap the Ouse Competition

The Ouse Washes Landscape Partnership has launched an exciting competition to promote OuseFest (which starts on the 20th July and runs until the 2nd August 2015).

Ouse Washes LogoWe are looking for photographs that define the character and feel of the Ouse Washes and depict what makes our area great. Photographs could include landscapes, wildlife, people, buildings or water.

The competition is open to everyone and has three age categories (Age 12 or under, 13 to– 18, and 19 or over). One winner from each category will win a basket full of goodies worth £50.

The closing date is Sunday 31st May 2015. See their website for details.

Recreating Iconic Photographs

If you have a few days spare when you are trapped indoors, you might like to consider recreating some iconic photographs in model form. Be careful, though, because the standard is high.

“Moving Light” Photo Competition

You may be interested in a Photography Competition being run by the organisers of the annual Cambridge Light Festival.

They want photographs of “moving light” in one of four categories, all of which have been – or soon will be – subjects of club meetings:

  • Long exposure
  • Light-painting
  • Street photography
  • Black and White photography

The competition is open for photographs taken between 11 November 2014 and 11 January 2015.

Entrants need to register online at the e-Luminate website, which has all the details.

CEN Photographer of the Year

I did enter for this competition – but failed miserably!

However, this link to the slideshow of winning photographs might be of interest to club members. Certainly a very different take in some cases, and an exercise in Photoshop in others.

Adobe Offer

I know that many of our members use Adobe Photoshop. I personally use Lightroom and Elements but I was considering upgrading. Adobe want their customers to switch to their subscription product called Creative Cloud which gives you access to all of their tools for a monthly fee – but quite a large one!

They have just announced Creative Cloud Photoshop Photography. This gives you Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 (plus some online storage and website publishing facilities) for £8.78/month (£105.36/year). This compares with the price of £102.57 for Lightroom 5 and a monthly fee for Photoshop of £17.58 (they really don’t want you to buy Photoshop outright anymore).

Here’s the link for more about CC Photoshop Photography. Sadly, they do not offer commission.

This price is only available until December 2nd 2013. I don’t know what the price will be after that.
